Lured by the hopes of striking it rich during the California gold rush of the mid 1800’s, skilled French chocolate maker Etienne Guittard traveled from France to the Barbary Coast to search for the sparkling precious metal. Etienne soon established the Guittard Chocolate Factory in San Francisco in 1868.
